Meek considering appeal after bail denial

Murder accused Tiffany Nicole Meek says the police and justice system failed her after her bail application was denied.

Tiffany Nicole Meek’s defence attorney, Noven Naidoo, says they are considering bringing a new bail application based on new facts or appealing the magistrate’s decision after Meek (31) was denied bail on Tuesday, July 29, in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.

Meek is accused of murdering her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek. She faces charges of murder, crimen injuria, defeating or obstructing the administration of justice, and attempting to defeat the course of justice.

Jayden-Lee’s body was found eight metres from Meek’s apartment. A post-mortem revealed he died from a head injury caused by blunt force trauma.

During the bail hearing, it emerged that Jayden-Lee’s red tracksuit jacket, his school bag containing work dated May 13, and a pillow stained with his blood were found inside Meek’s flat. It was also revealed that Meek returned to her flat alone on May 14, and that Jayden-Lee’s body was discovered shortly after she left again. The court considered the sequence of events to be “no coincidence”.

The matter has been postponed to September 17 for further investigation and for a decision on whether it will be transferred to the High Court.
