Community joins hands to fight crime

Crime offenders will soon have no place to hide in neighbourhoods.

Over the past two weeks, the Honeydew CPF volunteers and Honeydew police have been hosting safety awareness campaigns at shopping centres around the area.

During these campaigns, the teams also promoted safety and vigilance among road users by carrying out visibility standoffs.

“As part of our efforts, members of the police and the CPF visited Summerfield Shopping Centre to engage with security guards regarding the safety of clients using ATMs. This initiative was prompted by a noticeable increase in ATM scams at various centres, and we aimed to raise awareness and vigilance among on-site security personnel,” noted the Honeydew CPF’s public relations officer, Michael Steyn.

In addition to the shopping centre visits, the CPF volunteers lead two high-visibility standoffs at major intersections in the community. Sector 3 held a standoff at the corner of Fredenharry Street and Hendrik Potgieter Road, while Sector 1 took to the corner of Northumberland Road and Aureole Avenue. The police and CPF teams handed out pamphlets offering practical safety tips and crime prevention information to motorists and pedestrians during the operations.

Michael commended everyone involved in these campaigns, highlighting that such initiatives are designed not only to deter potential criminals but also to strengthen cooperation between residents, security stakeholders, and the police. The awareness campaigns and visible policing are seen as important tools in reducing crime and creating a safer environment for all.

To ensure a safe neighbourhood for everyone, residents are encouraged to work together with law enforcement officers by reporting any criminal or suspicious activities they encounter.
