Garage theft on the rise

Read to find out what steps you can take to stay safe.

The Honeydew CPF has issued a statement warning residents of the recent rise of garage break-ins in the area, especially in areas around Weltevreden Park and Allen’s Nek.

According to the statement, the criminals force the garage doors open and take valuable items like bicycles, tools, and other things that are stored inside.

In light of this, the statement also offers the following safety tips for residents to follow:

1. Make sure garage doors are securely locked and check for any weak points that could be exploited
2. Always arm your alarm, even if you are going out only for a short time
3. Install active beams or motion sensors inside or in front of the garage, as these often scare away criminals
4. Keep valuable items away from plain sight, where criminals can easily access them, to avoid drawing their attention
5. Report any suspicious activity immediately to police or the local security company

Residents are urged to share the alert with friends, neighbours, family, and the broader community and remain vigilant at all times.
