JHB Flying Squad arrest three suspects in Roodepoort

The suspects were arrested in different occasions for business robberies, cellphone thefts and being in possession of drugs.

The Johannesburg Flying Squad team has made significant progress in tackling crime in Roodepoort, arresting three suspects over the past weekend.

According to a statement shared to the Roodepoort Record by Raymond Sambo, the Media Liaison officer, on Sunday January 25, the team received reports about a silver grey BMW that is allegedly involved in business robberies around Florida.

The vehicle was spotted on Nasrec Road, and when the suspects sped away, it led to a high-speed chase.

“The vehicle was cornered in Langlaagte after it was involved in a collision, and the suspect was arrested for reckless and negligent driving and possession of drugs,” read the statement.

Further investigation led the team to an address in Florida, where a second suspect was found with 19 suspected stolen cellphones and was subsequently arrested.

Team members then proceeded to a third address, and it was searched, resulting in the recovery of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.

The suspects, aged between 25 and 36, will face charges including possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, and possession of drugs.

They are expected to appear in different Magistrate’s courts soon.
