JMP patrol leads to drug bust
A routine search took an interesting turn when the officers decided to stop and take a deeper look at the suspicious vehicle parked on the roadside.
A man was arrested after officers from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit recovered suspected illegal drugs during a patrol, which later led them to additional substances at a residence in Cosmo City.
According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the incident occurred on Monday (April 27) during routine patrols along Tailor Road. Officers reportedly noticed a suspicious vehicle parked with a lone male occupant inside. They then approached the man and searched him and the vehicle, leading to the discovery of the substances.

“Officers recovered two small clear zip-lock sachets containing a substance suspected to be ‘Cat’ (Methcathinone) inside the suspect’s pockets,” said Fihla.
Following further questioning, the suspect allegedly directed officers to his home in Cosmo City, where a second search was conducted.
“A significant discovery was made at the secondary search premises. A bottle and a small bucket containing additional quantities of illegal substances believed to be Cat and crystal meth were found,” explained Fihla.

Following the two searches, the suspect was arrested for the possession of illegal substances and taken to Honeydew SAPS, where he remains in custody as he awaits his court appearance.
Fihla said the JMPD will continue to maintain a visible policing presence to curb drug-related crime across Johannesburg. “This arrest serves as a reminder that our officers are constantly monitoring suspicious activity to ensure the safety and well-being of all Johannesburg residents,” he said.
