Roodepoort tops Gauteng rape stats
The latest crime statistics reveal that Roodepoort remains a dangerous place despite a general decline in incidents.
While crime statistics for the first quarter of 2026 show declines in most crime categories in both Roodepoort and Florida, several serious offences remain a concern.
Roodepoort Police Station remains among the top 10 stations in Gauteng for rape, contact crime, kidnapping and property-related crime, despite notable year-on-year decreases in reported incidents.
The most concerning figures relate to rape.
Roodepoort recorded the highest number of rape cases in Gauteng and the 10th highest nationally, despite reporting 11 fewer cases between January and March than during the same period last year.

The station also remained among the province’s top five for contact crime (crimes against the person), recording 691 cases compared with 701 during the corresponding period last year.
Property-related crime also remained high, with 305 reported cases, down from 350 a year earlier.
Kidnapping continues to be a concern. Roodepoort recorded 42 cases between January and March, ranking ninth in the province despite six fewer reported incidents than during the same period last year.
Florida Police Station fared considerably better, with none of its crime categories featuring among the province’s top 10.
The station did, however, rank among the top 20 for robberies at non-residential premises, recording 12 cases compared with 15 during the same period last year.
Both stations recorded increases in carjacking. Roodepoort reported 25 incidents, up from 22 last year, while Florida recorded 26 cases, four more than during the same period in 2025.
