Honeydew police seize suspected cocaine worth R300m
A suspected cocaine seizure in Northriding has launched a police investigation, with no arrests made and questions remaining about those behind the alleged drug operation.
Honeydew police seized suspected cocaine with an estimated street value, according to police, of R300m during an intelligence-driven operation in Northriding on September 12.
According to Lieutenant Mpho Tshetlhane, the seizure was made at about 20:30 after Honeydew police members acted on intelligence about suspected illicit drug-related activities at a plot in the area.
“Information regarding suspected illicit drug-related activities was swiftly operationalised, resulting in the recovery of the suspected cocaine,” Tshetlhane said.
During the operation, officers also seized a black Land Cruiser SUV which was allegedly displaying false registration numbers and had an allegedly altered vehicle identification number.
No arrests have been made in connection with the seizure at this stage.
Police said investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovery and determine who may be linked to the suspected drug operation.
The seizure forms part of Honeydew police’s ongoing efforts to disrupt the illicit drug trade and other serious crimes in the area.
“Police will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations aimed at disrupting the illicit drug trade and other serious crimes,” said Tshetlhane.
He added that cooperation between law-enforcement agencies and communities remains important in addressing criminal activities.
“Police will also continue working with other law-enforcement stakeholders and communities to ensure that criminal activities are effectively addressed,” he said.
Honeydew CPF public relations officer Michael Steyn praised the two full-time officers and two reservists who played a key role in securing the seizure, describing their efforts as a demonstration of the dedication and commitment of police members in the fight against the illegal drug trade.
“We are exceptionally proud of the two full-time members, together with the two Honeydew SAPS Reservists, who played a vital role in securing this significant seizure of illicit drugs,” Steyn said.
“Every seizure makes a difference and brings us one step closer to safer communities,” he added.

Tshetlhane also urged the public to share information anonymously via the MySAPS app.
