Video: Cash-in-transit vehicle bombed in Maraisburg

Police say no injuries were reported after a violent CIT heist in Maraisburg.

Residents in Maraisburg woke up on October 5 to the sound of gunshots and an explosion when a cash-in-transit (CIT) vehicle was attacked and bombed along Millward Road.

The incident occurred near the Maraisburg Cemetery at about 06:30.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, police believe the attack was carried out by about 10 people, all wearing gloves and balaclavas.

“The suspects used an old yellow Nissan bakkie as a ramming vehicle while another black unidentified vehicle was occupied by suspects who fired shots at the cash vehicle,” she said.

This is the second CIT heist in the Florida policing precinct, following an attack on Helpmekaar Road in Fleurhof on September 12.
