Ward 83 voter calls for change over uncollected rubbish and poor service delivery

Joyce Hlongwane was among 569 people who had voted at Laerskool Roodekrans by 09:52, despite a scanner shortage at the station.

Ward 83 resident Joyce Hlongwane said weeks of uncollected rubbish had prompted her to cast her vote in the hope of bringing about change.

“It feels good that I have made my mark today. In my street there are potholes with rocks that are damaging cars, and there is also the high, unexplained unemployment rate,” said Hlongwane.

By 09:52, about 569 people had cast their ballots at Laerskool Roodekrans.

The presiding officer confirmed that the station was operating with one scanner fewer than required.

However, he said the queue was moving swiftly and officials were managing the situation.

He added that about 4 000 people were registered to vote at the station and that about 169 special votes had been recorded the previous day.
