Massive outage over Roodepoort suburbs

A large area power outage is underway in numerous suburbs of Roodepoort.

A massive electricity outage is currently underway in large swathes of Roodepoort.

Some of the affected suburbs are Helderkruin, Constantia, Weltevreden Park, Allen’s Nek, Discovery, Horison, Horison View, Florida Park, Georginia, Wilgeheuwel, Strubens Valley, Amarosa, Peter Road, and Eagle Canyon.

Traffic throughout the greater Roodepoort area is also badly affected as most traffic lights are out.

According to an update posted to the @CityPowerJHB’s X (formerly Twitter) page, the outage was caused by a fallen tree that downed two power lines that run from the Kloofendal substation. According to the post, there is as yet no indication as to how long it will take to repair.

Multiple areas also reported outages yesterday after a fire broke out at the JG Strydom Switching Station in Weltevreden Park.

The Roodepoort Record/ Northsider has approached City Power for clarity on the situation, and their comments will be added as soon as it is received.
