Class of ’76 prepares for long-awaited reunion

50 Years on, and it's all systems go for Parkies' Class of 76 reunion in September.

The Florida Park High School matric Class of 1976 will celebrate its 50-year reunion on September 5 at the Dainfern Country Clubhouse in Fourways.

According to former head boy Ian Pettey, the reunion will be the class’s first since leaving school and will provide an opportunity for former classmates to reconnect. Several alumni who now live overseas are expected to return to South Africa for the occasion.

“The organising committee has been hard at work since November last year tracking down former pupils,” said Ian.

The reunion WhatsApp group currently has 65 members. Ian said the search for former classmates had also revealed that several had passed away, some of them recently.

The organising committee is inviting not only those who matriculated in 1976, but anyone who attended Florida Park High School with the class between 1972 and 1976, to get in touch and join the group.

“In addition, many former teachers have been contacted, and several will also be attending the reunion,” he said.

For more information or to join the group, WhatsApp Ian on 084 230 8000 or visit the Parkies Matrics of ’76 Reunion Facebook page.
