Community responds to medical waste

A health hazard was prevented as committee members disposed of dumped syringes found in the Pampoenspruit greenbelt.

A potentially hazardous situation was avoided when the Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) came across a large pile of medical syringes in the Pampoenspruit greenbelt in Sonneglans while patrolling the area.

While conducting a walk around the area, the committee members stumbled upon the large pile posing a significant risk to public health and safety. According to Honeydew CPF public relations officer Michael Steyn, the prompt response of ComMed Emergency Response and Community Support Services (CSS) allowed the incident to be resolved swiftly.

“This incident is part of a medical waste, and we are relieved it was handled as quickly as possible before it got into the wrong hands or injured someone. A huge thank you to ComMed and CSS for the assistance; their efforts have prevented potential harm,” Steyn said.
