Johannesburg water systems are slowly recovering after hitting a critical point
The Grand Central reservoir, as well as the Erand 1 reservoir, had improved recovery overnight as the Rand Water pumping process began. Areas will see recovery as the system builds back to normal capacity.
Rand Water’s Palmiet System is gradually recovering after hitting a critical point on November 6.
According to Johannesburg Water (JW), Rand Water’s Palmiet System was restored last night and is currently pumping at full load. The Grand Central reservoir was able to recover satisfactorily overnight and the pumping process to Grand Central tower commenced on the morning of November 7.
“The Erand 1 reservoir capacity also improved overnight, and we have started pumping into the Erand tower this morning. Other reservoirs in the Midrand area have also started recovering and are starting to supply. The Sandton system also slightly improved since last night and is supplying normally,” explained JW’s spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala.
As the system builds capacity, the recovery will be gradual in terms of restoration of water supply to the affected areas.
The South Hills tower, affecting South Hills and Linmeyer, is still empty due to the constrained supply level of the bulk supplier. Alternative water is continuing in the area.
The water entity will continue providing alternative water supply to affected areas until the system fully recovers.
