Explosion at JG Strydom Switching Station disrupts power supply

The timeline for restoring power remains uncertain, as City Power workers are on-site trying to resolve the issue and restore electricity.

An explosion occurred earlier today, November 19 at the JG Strydom Switching Station, prompting swift action from emergency services.

The fire department, Joburg City Power and their contractors, and armed response security companies have been dispatched to the site to contain the situation and secure the area.

Details regarding the cause of the explosion remain unknown at this stage. Authorities have assured residents that updates will be provided as more information becomes available. City Power teams have successfully restored 46% of the power supply to affected areas and the crew remains on site, focusing on cable repairs to fully stabilise the situation.
