Traffic interruption on Doreen Road to last for 2 weeks

JRA urges motorists to expect delays when travelling on Doreen Road.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has announced that it will be carrying out geotechnical investigations along Doreen Road (southbound) between Lawrence Road and Toermalyn Avenue in Poortview Agricultural Holdings from tomorrow, November 7, until Friday, November 21.

According to JRA’s operations manager for marketing and communication, Bertha Scheepers, these technical assessments are a crucial step in the rehabilitation of Doreen Road, which was closed to traffic in April following severe pavement distress, shoulder collapse, embankment instability, and stormwater deficiencies that created unsafe driving conditions and structural degradation.

Scheepers further adds that to enable the detailed investigations needed for the final rehabilitation design, lane closures will be implemented to allow safe access to borehole drilling sites along the affected section.

During this period, motorists can expect:

• Temporary closure of the left-hand (uphill) lane in short sections during drilling activities
• Localised lane narrowing and intermittent delays, particularly during peak travel times
• Restricted movement of heavy vehicles in the investigation area

The JRA advises all road users to:

• Exercise caution when approaching the area
• Reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance for the protection of both motorists and on-site teams
• Consider alternative routes where possible to avoid delays
• Follow all traffic officials’ directions and road signage in the vicinity
• The agency has assured the public that all reasonable measures will be taken to ensure safety, minimise disruptions, and maintain access for residents, pedestrians, and emergency services during the investigation period

“The JRA apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the community for its patience and co-operation as the agency works to restore Doreen Road to a safe and functional condition. Further updates regarding the rehabilitation of Doreen Road will be communicated once the assessment results are finalised,” Scheepers says.
