City of Johannesburg mayor visits Roodepoort CBD
This was part of the mayor's high-impact service delivery programme.
The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, visited Roodepoort CBD on Tuesday, November 25, addressing service delivery problems plaguing the area.
This was part of a high-impact service delivery programme, where the city deploys multi-departmental teams to address critical urban challenges like illegal dumping, vandalism, infrastructure problems and homelessness through targeted operations in specific regions.

Multiple entities, such as City Power, Johannesburg Road Agency, Johannesburg Water, and the Department of Human Settlements, etc, were present and working together to tackle these complex issues effectively. The team was also doing resurfacing and patching of roads.

“We are identifying service delivery failures so that we can plan and respond to those problems,” he said.

Some of the issues identified were non-compliance of businesses, sewers connected to stormwater systems, informal traders, illegal dumping and littering. The mayor also said they identified two dumping sites that will be converted into mini-parks.

“All these problems cannot be solved by the City alone. Therefore, we call on the traders here to take responsibility to ensure that the area is clean, and all the businesses must comply and pay for their rates.”
He noted that some problems are budgetary and cannot be attended to quickly.
