Honey Park residents demand services

Residents handed over their second Memorandum of Demand despite their first one being ignored.

City Power (CP) hosted an open public meeting at the Phelindaba Chamber in January to engage residents on ongoing electricity challenges affecting Ward 97.

During the meeting, Ward 97 residents outlined their grievances to CP and brought about strategies that the entity needs to re-examine and implement in order to minimise power outages in the community.

Ward 97 Councillor Jacques Hoon outlined to CP issues that mostly affected all Ward 97 areas. Many Northside areas experienced more power outages during the festive season and were subjected to no electricity.

On the other hand, Honey Park resident, Anele Ndaba, handed over their second Memorandum of Demand (MoD) to the entity during the meeting despite efforts to submit the first one last year, June. Residents outlined all the issues they’re facing and requested a swift response to those demands.

Honey Park residents referred to the Eagle Canyon electricity developments and told the entity they’re surprised to see an area with less power outage than their get response will they don’t.

According to CP general manager Isaac Mangena, any infrastructure interventions or implementation decisions, including those undertaken in Eagle Canyon, are based on detailed assessments such as network condition, operational requirements, and safety considerations. These aspects are presently being evaluated in relation to the concerns raised by Honey Park residents.

CP confirmed to the Roodepoort Northsider to have received the MoD and acknowledged the concerns raised by the residents of Honey Park.

“Residents can expect formal feedback once the investigations and assessments have been concluded. A comprehensive response, including any proposed interventions where applicable, will be communicated at the appropriate time,” Mangena said.
