Local civil rights organisation keeps the community blooming

Residents help keep the community clean through clean-up campaigns.

On Saturday, January 24, Roodepoort AfriForum, in partnership with the police, hosted a clean-up campaign in Haverston AH and along Die Oupad Road.

According to Roodepoort AfriForum member Bernardo Botha, the organisation is run entirely by volunteers who serve the community without receiving any payment. He said the group steps in where government services have fallen short and works to support residents in building a better future.

The initiative also attracted nearby residents, who joined in to help keep the area clean and well maintained. Volunteers cleared sidewalks and pavements and cut long grass that had been obstructing drivers’ views at intersections.

The Honeydew police assisted by providing visibility, while community members supported the team by offering refreshments throughout the day.

Botha told the Roodepoort Northsider that the clean-up campaign is a recurring initiative, reflecting the organisation’s long-term commitment to the community. He said AfriForum aims to continue rebuilding areas affected by poor service delivery and hopes to close the gap left by government shortcomings. Residents can expect to see more of the organisation’s activities in the area.

AfriForum encourages community members to stay informed, take part in local initiatives and report concerns through the appropriate channels.
