Stephen encourages young performers to reach for the stars

"In 2014, while assisting with set construction for an RLT production, I was introduced to a fellow cast member who was photographing the rehearsal."

One of Stephen Slade’s happiest moments as a member of the Roodepoort Little Theatre (RLT) was when he met his future wife.

Stephen has been involved with the Roodepoort Little Theatre for seven years.

The 72-year-old was raised in England. They had a thriving community theatre, and Stephen’s parents took him to all of the pantomimes. He grew up listening to radio shows and watching stand-up comedy on stage.

“My proudest stage achievement was playing the Constable in an amateur production of Fiddler on the Roof at The Questors Theatre in Ealing, London,” Stephen exclaimed.

When discussing happy memories, Stephen added, “In 2014, while assisting with set construction for an RLT production, I was introduced to a fellow cast member who was photographing the rehearsal. We married nine months later and co-starred in Running Riot in the winter of 2015.”

When he isn’t rehearsing or performing for the RLT with his wife, Stephen enjoys watching old black and white films on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Stephen would be overjoyed to be a part of an RLT production that packed the big theatre upstairs and which receives glowing reviews in the Record/Northsider.

“Go For It!” is his final piece of advice to anyone considering auditioning for a part.
