Florida police mourn the passing of Captain Grant Keyter
“He embraced what it meant to be a police officer and always tried his best to find solutions."
The Florida community and police are deeply saddened by the death of Captain Grant Keyter whose knowledge of the Florida precinct was always unblemished and his dedication unwavering
Keyter joined the police force in 1989 and started his career with the Flying Squad.
He was transferred to Florida Police Station in June 1989 where he served the community of Florida with his heart and soul.
In 2003 he became part of the crime prevention team at Florida Police Station whereby he was involved in many arrests and contributed to the success of Florida police and keeping the community safe.
In 2013 he was a relief Commander for the D-shift and was mostly assisting the community in the community service centre (CSC) and ensuring that his relief provide a good service to the community.
He resigned from the service in September 2022 and sadly passed away after a short illness on October 18.
Keyter’s vast knowledge and passion for his community will be sadly missed, his absence will be felt by the community as almost everybody residing in Florida area knew him.
His colleagues will also miss him dearly as he was always giving advice and mentoring all the new constables by teaching them the right way.

“I used to call him “Charmer” because of his friendliness, condolences to the family and friends, may his soul rest in peace,” said Colonel Amos Tsotetsi.
Ward 70 Councillor Caleb Finn said that Keyter served for many years and his knowledge of the area and policing was impressive.
“He embraced what it meant to be a police officer and always tried his best to find solutions.
“His presence will be missed, my thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones,” said Finn.
