Young judoka impress at SA Schools Championships

“All our children that were selected to represent West Rand Judo Association at this event, came home with at least one medal.”

Some of KJK Judo Club judoka participated in the South African Schools Judo Championships for children aged 7-12 years. The event was held at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) from October 5 to 7.

The event had three categories, namely SA Schools Kata, SA Schools Novice, SA Schools Advanced.

In the Kata category Johvan Taljaardt and Adam Williams secured gold medals while Justin Janse van Rensburg and Rynard Hall took home silver medals.

Xander van der Watt and Liam Page who competed among the best were also impressive at the tournament and were placed in 4th place.

SA Schools Novice Event saw Josua Haarhoff, Gerhard Alberts, Janu Dubber, Liam Page, Nico Sheppard and Oreratile Mogoba take home gold medals while Bokamoso Mogoba secured a silver medal.

KJK Judo Club judoka turned up the heat at the SA Schools Advanced Competition and were rewarded for their efforts when Rynard Hall deservedly won a gold medal with Wian Coetzee bagging silver and Xander van der Watt awarded a bronze medal.

“All our children that were selected to represent West Rand Judo Association at this event, came home with at least one medal,” said a happy Head Coach Katja Bruwer.
