The expansion of young minds includes learning together through shared resources.
Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel welcomed their friends from Apex Daycare for another day of education and skills sharing, on February 17. Just over 50 staff and learners eagerly jumped aboard the Curro busses to take a trip from the Ruimsig informal settlement to their hosts who would give them a fun-filled day out.

Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel has a long-running partnership with Apex Daycare which has comprised regular visits, annual secret Santa shoebox projects as well as Easter egg campaigns. The skills and resource exchange is part of the Curro values which include child-friendliness, positive discipline, Christian ethics, and morals as well as creative thinking.
The Apex Daycare’s day out began with breakfast in The Castle’s play area before a Playball session led by coach Roxy Leech. Once the minds were fed, the 46 Apex learners spent time in classrooms to experience the learning environment and then had another snack before more playtime. Lunch was the last event before everyone packed up and went home with party packs.

Winnie Salman has been with Apex Daycare for four years and was the senior teacher looking after children aged between six months and six years.
“We are all very excited. Thank you to Curro for everything they have done for us. It shows they have a love for children and our nation. It feels very special to be part of Curro,” said Winnie.
Curro parents donated the items for the party packs while in-house caterers Hammond Foods supplied the breakfast, snacks, and lunch.

Principal at The Castle, Megan Gaertz, apprised the visiting learners’ discipline and eagerness to learn, saying, “They have been a joy to have around. We wanted to bring them in to experience the school and wanted to do something that is outside the usual holidays. We hope we gave them a fun and educational day out.”
