Police search for family after woman’s body found in Strubens Valley pool
An inquest docket was opened following the recovery of an unidentified 28-year-old woman from a local swimming pool.
Police have appealed to the public to help identify a 28-year-old woman whose body was recovered from a swimming pool in Strubens Valley on Monday, September 7.
Members of the Johannesburg Water Policing and Diving Services were deployed to a property in the suburb following reports of a drowning, according to Johannesburg Flying Squad spokesperson Captain Raymond Sambo.
“Upon arrival, police found the woman lying face down in the pool at a depth of about one metre. She was wearing a light grey long-sleeve T-shirt and black shorts, with visible injuries on her body,” Sambo said.
The victim was retrieved from the pool and handed over to members of Honeydew police, who opened an inquest docket. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
Police said the identity of the woman is still unknown and urged anyone with a missing family member fitting the description to visit their nearest police station.
Sambo appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could assist the investigation to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
Meanwhile, police urged members of the public to take precautionary measures around bodies of water.
People entering dams, rivers or other bodies of water are advised to wear life jackets. Parents and guardians are urged to educate children about the dangers of open water and ensure they are supervised at all times.
