Florida police secure eight arrests during three separate operations

Large quantities of heroin and crystal meth were removed from the streets.

Florida Police have been keeping up the pace of their regular precinct sweeps.

Three Station Disruptive Operations (SDO) in five days yielded multiple arrests and the removal of large amounts of drugs from Florida streets. Combining the deployment of resources from the Social Crime Prevention (SCP) unit, employing a stop-and-search strategy and the hard work of the detective branch has proven to be a winning formula.

On Thursday, March 2, two men were arrested for possession of drugs. Police confiscated nine small green packets of an unknown substance as well as 20 small bags of heroin. SCP issued five protection orders with 20 people and 10 vehicles being stopped and searched at random intervals.

Detectives were successful in securing the arrest of one person facing a charge of malicious injury to property (MITP), one charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and another charged with both common assault and malicious damage to property. Detectives also issued two warrants of arrest, one for contravention of a protection order and another for business breaking and theft.

The week began on solid footing with a March 6 SDO. The Monday operation saw the arrest of two more suspects for the possession of drugs. Police stopped and searched 10 individuals while detectives secured the arrest of one suspect wanted for a domestic violence-related malicious damage to property charge. The SCP unit served eight protection orders and visited a high school in Bergbron to promote anti-gangsterism messaging.

Tuesday, March 7, saw the arrest of one man for the possession of drugs and the confiscation of 91 packets of crystal meth following the search of 24 people and 12 vehicles. The SDO incorporates Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, private security, and station resources. The weekly targets vary from drugs and property-related crimes to illegal mining and trio crimes, shifting focus periodically so as not to create a pattern obvious to criminal elements.
