Ethandweni Project on the outskirts of Kagiso
Baby Moses is busy with another project, this time on the outskirts of Kagiso.
Based in Helderkruin, Baby Moses Children’s Sanctuary is an organisation that focuses on helping children in need.
They have numerous projects in which the objective is to relieve hunger and offer help to others. One such project is the Ethandweni Project near Kagiso, where the objective is to feed hungry children in the area.
The project started with one woman, Cindi Kanzi, who wanted to feed the hungry children of the area. The children that go to school get one meal per day at school, however, those that are too young to go to school, or aren’t able to go, still go hungry. Further, the children that go to school still go hungry on weekends.

“The management of Baby Moses encouraged Cindi to take action. Together with the founders of Baby Moses, Cindi came up with the idea that if she can only feed 16 of the hungriest children breakfast on a Saturday and Sunday, she would already be making a difference,” stated Lani de Klerk, co-founder of the organisation.
The project started with only 20 bowls, spoons, and cups, a plastic container for the dirty dishes, and 24 hungry children, the next morning there were 36 children. By the end of 2022, there were over 60 children. Another organisation Beaunity By Grace, donated a cooking pot, a cast iron pot, a gas stove and bottle, crates of food, cleaning products, and extra bowls and spoons to the project. The children were offered a meal of chicken, pap, and vegetables, or pasta and soya mince.
Over Christmas the children all received a gift of sweeties in a small bucket, given to them by donors.
To this day, Cindi still gets up before 4:00am to cook for the children. The group of children has now grown to 110 and even the elderly show up to see if there is any food left after the children have eaten.
“Cindi dreams of having a covered area where she can cook for and feed ‘her’ children. She says the cold they can brave, but it is when it rains that they struggle. The children still come, because hunger does not wait for good weather. It is also a challenge for Baby Moses to source enough food and cleaning products and get them delivered to the project on a Friday afternoon. In time, they would love to extend the feeding project to feed children during the week as well … but for now, both Cindi and the founders of Baby Moses, are grateful that they can make a small difference. It is a reminder that even the smallest actions can have a significant impact on the lives of those others,” stated Lani.
