NPR visit to the Douglasdale Dairy Farm and Botanical Garden
The learners at Nova Pioneer Ruimsig had a fun-filled week as they went on a few day trips.
Grade 4 and 5 Nova Pioneer Ruimsig learners visited the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden on Tuesday, March 28.
The staff at the Botanical Garden presented fun interactive activities on nature conservation and the variety of plants and birds in the Garden. The activities included a scavenger hunt as well as learning about the names of the different plants. The teachers and parents joined the students for a few games and team-building activities.

“The learners have a greater appreciation for our environment and how to preserve our natural resources,” exclaimed Carla Hercules.

“In addition, our Grade 2 and 3 learners accompanied by their teachers and parents visited the Douglasdale Dairy Farm.”

They were greeted by the farm’s calves as they arrived. They watched a video on the process of milking from the farm to the supermarket. Learners then explored the farm and also went into the factory to see how the milk is packaged and transported to the supermarket. Once the tour was over, they enjoyed a picnic, fed the calves, and played games. At the end of the day, all learners, parents, and staff received a gift which included drinking glasses and a bottle of fresh milk.
