Road rage incident leads to one injured and one in police custody

Ontdekkers Road is closed between CR Swart Road and Ruhamah Drive after a shooting incident between a truck driver and a taxi driver ensued.

A taxi driver is in hospital after a shooting incident on Ontdekkers Road.

Colonel De Freitas from the police stated, “At this stage of the investigation it seems it started as a road rage incident.”

He explained it appeared the truck driver and the taxi driver got involved in an altercation which escalated as they travelled on Ontdekkers Road. At one point both vehicles stopped and the drivers got out and started fighting, which is when the truck driver took out a firearm and shot the driver of the taxi.

He continued to say the driver was taken to Leratong Hospital with a bullet wound on the left side of his chest. He noted he was stable as they loaded him into the ambulance, but an examination will have to be done as to whether he has any internal damage as the bullet is still in him, there was only an entry wound, no exit wound.

De Freitas concluded, “We’ve taken the driver of the truck into custody and we’ve opened a case of attempted murder against him. Then we’ve taken the firearm in as well. We just want to diffuse everything and move everything out of the way.”
