Kwena Square promote community artists and entrepreneurs on Heritage Day

Artists place their exhibits on display to showcase the culture and natural beauty synonymous with South Africa.

National heritage is built on connected community foundations.

The parking lot of Kwena Square was lined with pop-up art exhibitions and colourfully dressed staff to celebrate Heritage Day on September 24. The art exhibitions showcased the culture, landscapes, flora, and fauna of South Africa giving a fitting backdrop for the surrounding fun and games. The Heritage Day celebrations featured a charity element, as a collaboration between Kwena Square tenants Cat Box Hyper and Friends of Rescued Animals, with proceeds going to the animal shelter.

Kwena Square challenged their shoppers to sport their national pride for their selfie wall, had fun activities for the children, and had been giving out prizes all week long with the grand prize being a mural sponsored by a well-known local artist. All the artists were sourced from the surrounding communities, exemplifying the mall’s commitment to promoting the wider community.

“Today, we celebrate the diverse cultures, traditions, and heritage that make our nation so vibrant and unique. Let’s embrace and honour our roots, coming together in unity to appreciate the richness of our heritage. It is about sharing happiness and aligning with our community’s interest,” said marketing manager Portia Fundi, adding that future events will continue to platform community-based businesses, entrepreneurs and small medium and micro enterprises.
