Brrr-ace yourself as snow is expected to fall in some parts of Gauteng

Snow is expected to fall in some parts of Gauteng soon, as a cold front moves across the region. Residents are urged to prepare for freezing temperatures.

Cold clouds gathering and a chill in the air… residents should prepare themselves for possible snowfall in Gauteng soon.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) announced on X that on Friday, 4 July, there could be a drop in freezing levels across the eastern parts of the country, potentially resulting in sleet over southern Gauteng (although isolated showers are expected for the province) and snow in the Drakensberg mountains.

Gauteng Weather also confirmed on their X account that early forecasts suggest a small chance of snow early on Friday for southern Gauteng.

Vox Weather shared on their Facebook page that only the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts’ (ECMWF) model currently indicates a slim chance of light snow or a rain-snow mix in Gauteng early Friday morning.

“As we’ve seen before, snow forecasts in Gauteng can change rapidly, so while it’s possible, it remains unlikely at this stage. Light rain could reach as far north as Gauteng by Friday, with temperatures staying chilly throughout the week.”
