The day saw industry experts from HR, law, STEM and People Capability Management.
The West Rand Lutheran Community Church hosted a highly successful Career Day on August 2, bringing together Grade Eight to 12 learners and young adults from across the region.
According to Busisiwe Malabane, one of the committee members for the ladies ministry, the event provided a valuable platform for learners to gain first-hand insights into various career paths, with panellists sharing their experiences and expertise in different fields.

The Career Expo kicked off with stalls from various businesses and organisations showcasing their services and opportunities to attendees. Notable exhibitors included the Department of Home Affairs, which catered to first-time applicants for identification, Standard Bank, which welcomed first-time bankers, and Westcol TVET College, offering insights into further education and training options.
The programme was expertly directed by Gerald Mwandiambira and Karabo Manyama, who ensured a smooth and engaging experience for all participants.

A warm welcome and prayer were shared, setting a positive tone for the day. This was followed by an inspiring motivational talk led by Boikanyo Madini, a graphics designer graduate, who shared her journey and insights to motivate and encourage the young attendees.
The first panel discussion focused on HR and Law, with a lineup of expert speakers who shared their knowledge and experiences. Simangaliso Magayi from Hlapane Attorneys, Nompulelo Lope from Indigenous Tunes, Ria Mokabane, who represented drafting legislation, and Lebogang Dire, an HR expert, provided attendees with a wealth of information on these fields.

After a short break, the second panel discussion took centre stage, featuring industry experts from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and People Capability Management. The panellists included Zonke Nyoni from the Sci-bono Discovery Centre, Salome du Toit from Westcol, Dipitseng Manamela, CEO of Dihlashana, Lunga Nombewu, who spoke about aviation, Phiwokuhle Mahlangu, a civil engineer, and Blessed Raphotle, a scientist from South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA).
The diverse range of speakers provided attendees with a broad understanding of the opportunities available in these fields.

The event was a huge success, and Busisiwe said it was their second annual career expo, and it is part of their Women’s Month initiative of giving back to the community.
The day concluded with a question-and-answer session, followed by a raffle prize-giving ceremony. The learners departed with grateful hearts and minds, eager to invest in their future and pursue their chosen career paths.
