Families, fun and donkeys steal the show at Spring Day Market

Curious visitors discovered more than just the donkeys.

The Rest Ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary hosted its Spring Day Market on Saturday, August 30, bringing families together for a day of fun, community connection, and a chance to meet the sanctuary’s rescued donkeys.

From early in the morning, vendors were ready with a variety of stalls, while guests admired the donkeys as they left their kraal to enjoy their straw. Children and adults alike delighted in petting the donkeys, sharing hugs, and even helping feed them. Some visitors came to shop, others to simply experience the animals up close.

The market offered more than just donkey interactions. Stalls featured food, snacks, crafts, toys, and skin and body products, creating a lively atmosphere for all ages. The South African Blood Services team also added a meaningful touch, helping guests donate blood and guiding them through the process with ease.

Live music kept the market buzzing, creating the perfect backdrop for families to spend quality time together, support local businesses, and enjoy a social day out.

The sanctuary itself is a haven for donkeys rescued from abuse. Here, the animals are free to rest and enjoy life – they are not re-homed, ridden, or re-bred – making the event a reminder of the important work done to protect and care for these gentle creatures.
