92-year-old pastor honoured with a prestigious award

Pastor Jannie du Plessis is also the longest-serving minister in the area.

Pastor Jannie du Plessis (92), a member of the Volle Evangelie Kerk van God, has penned down a remarkable milestone in his spiritual life, receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Ministry and Leadership.

This prestigious award is from the International Executive Council of the Church of God in Tennessee, USA. The award was officially presented to him in early August by Dr Peterson, moderator of the Full Gospel Church of God, during a special service.

Jannie entered the ministry of his church in 1960 and, just four years later, was called to lead the Roodepoort Assembly in 1964. For the past six decades, he has faithfully shepherded the congregation, preaching the gospel, raising leaders, and serving the wider community with distinction. Today, he stands as the longest-serving minister of the gospel in the city of Roodepoort.

The conferral of the honorary doctorate recognised his monumental life of ministry and leadership, declaring the gospel, training leaders, and advancing the Kingdom of God through personal integrity and unwavering commitment.

Speaking with humility after receiving the honour, he expressed his gratitude both to Dr Peterson and to the International Council of the Church of God.

“This award is not only a personal milestone,” he said, beaming with pride, adding, “but a testimony of God’s grace. I share it with my family, colleagues, and my beloved congregation here in Roodepoort. All glory belongs to the Lord.”

His recognition at the age of 92 serves as an inspiration not only to the church but also to the wider community of Roodepoort.

A life dedicated to the service of God and people, Pastor Jannie continues to embody the words of Scripture: “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life,” Revelation 2:10.
