Local author launches next children’s comic phenomenon

Jason Joubert has his sights set on world domination with his new comic book series for children.

After spending 26 years in the finance industry, Horison resident Jason Joubert has finally made it big – as a children’s comic book writer, under the nom de plume of JayJoBear.

According to Jason, he’s always shared a special bond with his dogs, and he manages to make family and friends laugh with his interpretation of what must be going through their minds.

“I would joke about what the dogs must be thinking, and even voice those thoughts with funny voices.

“This became a way for me to entertain my daughter as well, and eventually, I was encouraged to write down these little stories I made up.”

As fate would have it, Jason came into contact with a publisher who loved the idea, and before he knew it, his comic book series, The Epic Adventures of Dob-Bee & Oliver, was a go.

Author Jason Joubert’s latest comic book series, The Epic Adventures of Dob-Bee & Oliver, was released internationally on September 30.

“I never realised how hard a task it would be,” he says, adding that he loved every minute of it.

“I’d find myself working well into the night, and having the best time of my life creating the characters and writing the stories.

“The main characters are based on my dogs, but the other characters are also based on real-life family and friends.”

Jason says the one thing he truly loves about the project is the fact that it is good, clean fun for everyone between the ages of six and 100.

“The idea was always to make it as accessible as possible. It is wholesome, humorous, and pure fun.

“The stories are based on real-life, everyday scenarios that anyone can identify with.”

He describes the genre as quirky slapstick comedy, somewhere between Garfield and Madam & Eve.

“Best of all, we’ve not had to spend a cent on advertising. We started social media pages and almost immediately, the response from all over the world was overwhelming.”

The Adventures of Dob-Bee & Oliver was released internationally on September 30 and will be available in all major bookstores and via online platforms soon.
