Vervet monkey safely captured in Roodepoort CBD

The monkey was found in a good condition.

A vervet monkey that had been on the loose in the Witpoortjie area was safely trapped in Wilson Street, Roodepoort CBD, this afternoon, October 10.

According to Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) founder Cora Bailey, their team received a call from a resident who had spotted the monkey in the street.

“It is a young male and in good condition. Due to superstitions and other dangers, we often fear they might be harmed, but we found him safe and he is now at our facility,” she said.

Bailey added that it is normal for male vervet monkeys to leave their troop when they reach puberty in search of mates.
