CPF election dates announced

Florida CPF has announced new dates for their long-overdue elections.

Sector 2 of the Florida CPF has announced new election dates for its board committee.

This came after attempts at holding elections last year failed, due in part to widespread unhappiness when certain candidates were disqualified from taking part, resulting in the disruption of the election.

Rumours of attempted election rigging further contributed to the delay.

According to CPF chairperson Farhaad Sardiwalla, he is pleased that the election can finally move forward.

“All the plans are in place,” he says. “The election will proceed in accordance with the constitution, and we hope that it can be concluded peacefully.”

Sardiwalla explains that to avoid a similar situation as the previous year, it has been decided that separate elections will be held per area.

The elections will take place as follows:

• Jerusalema informal settlement: Jerusalema Rugby Club on Monday, November 3 at 17:30
• Hamberg, Florida Lake, and Esperanza: Florida Dragon Boat Club, Eisteddfod Street, on Monday, November 3 at 19:00
• Discovery: Discovery Recreation Centre, Anstruther Street, on Tuesday, November 4 at 19:00
• Florida 3 (Railway line to Main Reef Road, Westlake to Rail Street): Dardanelle’s Moth Hall, Green Street, on Wednesday, November 5 at 19:00
• Florida 1 (Golf Club Terrace to Madeleine Street, Ontdekkers Road to The Highway): Thursday, November 6 at 19:00. Venue to be announced.
• Florida 2 (The Highway to Railway line, Westlake to Rail Street): Rainbow FM, Sauer Street, on November 7 at 19:00
• Mariasburg and Delarey: Monday, November 10 at 19:00. Venue to be announced.

“We’ll also be holding a separate election for the Donovan McDonald Old Age Home, where the elected person will represent the elderly residents on the board and head up the CPF’s Aged Forum,” adds Sardiwalla.

“At each meeting, one resident will be elected to represent the specific area on the board of the Florida CPF Sector 2 Crime Forum.

Thereafter, on November 12, the elected representatives will vote among each other to determine the structure of the Sector 2 executive.

“The process will be concluded on November 26, when Florida’s three sectors meet to vote for the executive committee of the Florida CPF.”

Sardiwalla adds that the last two venues for the elections should be confirmed within the coming week, after which the various locations will be published.
