Vandalised bus stop shelter gets a new look
The new layer of paint has turned the neglected stop into a beautiful waiting spot for commuters.
A bus stop shelter on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Cascades roads has received a fresh coat of paint after it was vandalised and left in an unsanitary condition.
The clean-up and repainting were carried out by the Little Falls & Strubens Valley Residential Community (LIFCO) Projects Team on Sunday, February 8, with paint donated by Leroy Merlin South Africa. The work forms part of ongoing community efforts to improve shared public spaces in the Little Falls area.
According to Claire Fauchet from LIFCO, the shelter had been badly affected after a motor oil-like substance was thrown onto it, leaving the structure stained with a dark brown residue. This made the bus stop unpleasant and uncomfortable for commuters who use it daily. She also expressed that the repainting was an important first step, but more work is still required before the space can be fully restored.
“The bus stop was in a very poor condition when our team arrived. While the repainting has made a visible difference, there are still hygiene issues that need to be addressed before commuters can comfortably use the shelter again,” she said.
Claire confirmed that remnants of faeces, urine, and rotting food are still present in and around the bus stop, creating a strong and unpleasant odour. A thorough disinfecting process will be needed to ensure the area is safe and hygienic for the public.

“We are grateful to Leroy Merlin Little Falls for their ongoing support and for donating the paint that made this project possible. Partnerships like these allow us to continue improving shared spaces in our neighbourhood,” said Claire, thanking the people who continue to support their community projects.
