Honeydew CPF and police strengthen community safety through patrols

Local law enforcement engage with residents to combat crime in the community.

Patrollers of the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF), alongside newly recruited police officers, conducted a series of foot patrols in the Zandspruit area as part of ongoing community engagement initiatives.

According to CPF public relations officer Michael Steyn, the patrols formed part of a broader effort to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and residents, while also promoting awareness around gender-based violence (GBV). By walking through the community and engaging directly with residents, patrollers and officers were able to listen to concerns, offer guidance, and reinforce the importance of reporting crime and seeking support where needed.

“Engaging with community members during patrols is essential because safety is a shared responsibility. When police officers and CPF patrollers actively speak to residents, we build trust, gather valuable information, and strengthen partnerships that help prevent crime before it happens,” said Steyn.

Steyn believed this initiative provided an important platform for open dialogue, allowing community members to voice their safety concerns in a more personal and approachable setting. He noted that the presence of newly recruited officers also allowed residents to meet and interact with those who will be serving in their area.

“For the recruits, the experience proved both valuable and informative. Participating in on-the-ground patrols allowed them to gain first-hand insight into the challenges faced by the community, while also building trust and familiarity with residents,” he added.

The Honeydew CPF emphasised that such patrols remain a key part of their commitment to community safety and proactive crime prevention. Plans are already underway for additional patrols in the coming weeks, with a continued focus on engagement, visibility, and GBV awareness.

Residents are encouraged to participate in future initiatives and to continue working closely with local safety structures to promote a safer community.
