Toastmasters show their oratory prowess

Toastmasters competed for their places in the Toastmasters International South Africa finals.

A single question – “What is your wildest dream?” – set the tone for a high-stakes Toastmasters showdown as speakers from across Region F took to the stage on Saturday, March 14.

Representing 18 clubs from Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Lesotho, contestants competed in the International, Table Topic and Evaluation speech contests, each demanding a different level of skill – from prepared addresses to quick-thinking responses on the spot.

Judges had their work cut out for them as speakers delivered polished, thought-provoking speeches, using carefully chosen words, expressive body language and vocal variety to captivate the audience.

In true Toastmasters spirit, applause filled the venue after every speech.

“We clap louder than we speak,” said club treasurer Jaco Theron, highlighting the culture of encouragement and support.

According to Division F director Lesedi Masima, the winners will go on to represent the region at the District 74 finals at the Lesotho Thrive Conference in May.

After a morning of compelling performances, James Ramakau was named winner of the Table Topic contest, while Themba Ntuli dominated the competition, taking top honours in both the Evaluation and International Speech categories.
