Soulbent Project leads major clean-up drive in Honeydew
Soulbent Project continues to restore dignity and safety in Honeydew through a major clean-up.
A community-driven effort to combat illegal dumping and environmental neglect is gaining momentum in Honeydew.
The Soulbent Project launched a large-scale clean-up campaign aimed at restoring dignity and cleanliness to the area on April 30.
According to Soulbent Project CEO Mashudu Makhado, the initiative brings together volunteers, residents, and youth in a united push to transform neglected public spaces. The campaign focuses on removing waste from streets, open areas, and illegal dumping sites while promoting long-term environmental responsibility.
“This initiative goes beyond basic clean-up efforts; it’s not just about picking up litter. It’s about inspiring communities to take ownership of their environment and building a culture of pride and responsibility,” said Makhado.
“Honeydew faces ongoing challenges related to waste management and illegal dumping. The project aims to address these issues through a combination of hands-on clean-up activities, recycling initiatives, and educational outreach programmes,” he added.

A key component of the campaign is community engagement, particularly among young people. The organisation involved local youth in volunteer work as the project seeks to create opportunities, reduce crime, and encourage sustainable living practices. Makhado believes that active participation can help shift attitudes toward environmental care while fostering social cohesion.
Makhado urged broader collaboration from local businesses, government entities, and residents across Honeydew to support the campaign and make environmental protection a daily priority.

As the clean-up progresses, visible improvements in the area are already boosting morale among residents. Community members have expressed optimism that sustained efforts will lead to safer, cleaner, and more productive neighbourhoods.
“A clean community is a proud community. Together, we can protect our environment and build a stronger South Africa.”
The project plans to expand similar initiatives to other communities in the coming months, reinforcing its mission to create lasting environmental and social impact.
