Lantern school hosts successful canned food drive
The school collected over 700 cans to support the school's feeding programme with Round Table Florida.
The Lantern School Welfare Committee organised another annual canned food drive, marking another year of giving back to the community.
The drive took place on May 8, and the learners managed to collect 743 cans, as well as a collection of various non-perishables.

According to Joanne Rossouw, co-ordinator, this initiative started in 2018, and it aims to support the school’s feeding scheme and also Round Table Florida, a charity organisation that distributes food to those in need.
To make it fun and increase participation, each can of food brought by learners got them one entry into a lucky draw to win various prizes sponsored by Round Table Florida.

Kale Olivier’s family sponsored boxes of non-perishables, and Jayden-Lee Evans brought 168 cans. They both won Takealot vouchers, and other winners included Ayesha Ebrahiem, Marno van Tonder, and Ayanda Khumalo, who won Milky Lane vouchers.
Classes that brought in the most also received a warm pancake to celebrate their achievement.
“Next year we hope to collect even more and continue to foster the value of giving and charity in our learners,” said Joanne.
