Girl Guides explore Kloofendal Nature Reserve trails
Young leaders connect through outdoor adventure and skill-building in Kloofendal.
Young adults from the youth branch of Girl Guiding South Africa explored the trails of Kloofendal Nature Reserve on September 26 as part of their national camp activities.
The Girl Guides, who travelled from different parts of South Africa, were on their national camp from September 23 to 27 at the National Headquarters of Girl Guiding South Africa in North Riding under the theme ‘Authentically Her’.
Girl Guiding is a national movement that empowers young girls to reach their full potential through educational programmes while having fun.
As part of the camp programme, the group visited Kloofendal for a hike, giving participants an opportunity to spend time outdoors, explore the reserve and take part in an activity that promotes teamwork, resilience and leadership.
National relations and governance in society officer Sybil Radebe said the hike formed part of a range of activities planned for the national camp, which brings young adults from across the country together to connect, learn new skills and share their experiences within the Girl Guiding movement.
“Hiking relaxes minds, and it is also a reminder to the girls to be outgoing,” she said. “It also symbolises reaching full potential and exploring.”
CEO of Girl Guiding South Africa Zimasa Gqibani said the camp was a reminder for the girls to remain authentic and take pride in themselves, adding that they are also being empowered to go back to their community and make a difference.
