Local schools partner with NPO to bring Easter joy
Africa Food for Thought distributed the coloured eggs to 44 crèches, 11 schools, and 62 families.
This Easter, eight local schools (Kings School Robin Hills, Northwest Christian School, Kings School Vineyard, Kings School West Rand, Weltevreden Park Primary, Discovery Primary, Northcliff Primary, and Nova Pioneer) teamed up with Africa Food for Thought to bring joy to children on the West Rand. Learners from grades 1 to 12 collected and labelled over 28 000 chocolate marshmallow Easter eggs.

Africa Food for Thought handed the marked eggs to their 44 crèches, 11 schools, and 62 families. Throughout the year, these projects receive daily food assistance in the form of nutritious meals.
“We love to provide these children with a special treat now and then,” Africa Food for Thought (AFFT) manager Kate Jacobs elaborated, “One of our favourite tasks is making Easter eggs, which youngsters look forward to all year.”

At each project, volunteers and the AFFT team assist young children in reading the message on their eggs and enjoy making them smile! “The children are so happy to receive the Easter eggs they have been waiting for,” said Elizabeth Maleba, principal of Sunshine Educare in Swanneville.
Africa Food for Thought’s next project is World Hunger Day, which takes place on May 29. Schools and corporations can participate in a canned food drive or the Hunger Heroes dress-up day. For additional information, please contact Kate at kate@afft.org.za.
