The competition lasts two days where the best shooters from various countries compete against each other. The shooters get to showcase the different disciplines they learned, in the under 21 age category. They practice both at school and at home in preparation for the competition.

According to the coach Herman Uys, shooting is a good sport as it helps children with discipline and concentration, this is because the children have to practice for one and a half hours, with a break in between, which again teaches them to rest for a while and then concentrate.

Further, if a person has been shooting for a long time they learn to control their breath and heartbeat. According to Uys shooting is about more than just pulling a trigger, a person needs to have mental strength, as well as core strength to hold the gun up for a lengthy period.

Uys also added the children enjoy the sport as it is different from the normal sports activities offered at schools. He did add the school could do with better technology, which might help with training, however, that equipment is not always available in South Africa, thus expensive.
