Dios Los Ninos learners recognised for academic excellence at awards

DLN awards learners for their outstanding performance.

Dios Los Ninos (DLN) invited learners to attend an academic award ceremony hosted at the school on April 4.

“At DLN we believe in positive reinforcement as well as to encourage our learners as much as possible. We do a formal prizegiving at the end of each year, but in between we do an in-house ceremony at school once a term,” says principal Leonie Leppich.

DLN kicked off their second academic term with excitement as they acknowledged the hard work of their respective learners from their previous term.

According to Leonie, the learners lose hope if they only get awarded once a year.

“This way they see the fruits of their hard work, so we also try to enforce a positive attitude towards reading.”

The awards were presented in categories which included reading awards and trophies, as well as awards for leaders. The reading awards were given to the learner in each age group that reads the most books. Every winner in this category was awarded a certificate and a gift.

“Academics play a role, but we focus on the learners in full perspective. Hard work, dedication, manners, effort, attitude towards work, friends and teachers, improvement, etc, all play a role when choosing the winner,” she added.

The floating trophies are awarded each term in each class with the help of teachers. It is awarded to learners who perform outstandingly in academics and the learner also receives a gift with the trophy.

The school also awarded the leaders.

“This term we based our decision on the school camp we had in March. The two learners we chose were exceptional leaders at camp, without them knowing we observed them,” she said.
