Laerskool Die Ruiter ends hockey season with a win
Laerskool Die Ruiter's U13 hockey girls win the Elite Hockey League.
The U13 hockey girls from Laerskool Die Ruiter Primary performed exceptionally well throughout the whole hockey season and earned themselves a new title – the 2024 Elite Hockey League winners.
The league started at the beginning of the third term and was an opportunity to let the young hockey players grow their hockey skills while competing for the title.
The league featured numerous West Rand schools, each playing five games which resulted in Die Ruiter securing a place in the final.
Die Ruiter dominated the league by winning all their games and they showcased their talent in the semi-finals with a convincing 3–0 win against St Catherine’s, and they then won 1–0 in the finals against Charterhouse.
According to one of their coaches, Denise Harmse, the U13 girls started playing together as team since they were U10’s, and they grew their skills and sporting prowess together.
“These girls are one of the best hockey players we’ve ever had because they’ve had a chance to play together since they were young and they have learned each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” Dennis said.
In closing, Denise expressed her extreme pride in the team stating that their rigorous training sessions and hard work have earned them this win.
