Welties welcomes new deputy principal
Change brings new opportunities, and this teacher is ready to embrace both.
After seven years at Boskop Primary School, Neels Gouws, the departmental head of the Intersen Phase and Grade Seven teacher, has embarked on a new chapter as deputy principal at Weltevreden Park Primary School (Welties).
Reflecting on his time at Boskop, Neels said, “It was a very nice experience. I learnt a lot – especially how to manage time and how to work with young individuals.”
He added that he and his colleagues worked hard to build the school’s reputation, particularly in sport.
“Everything we tried to achieve was aimed at opening up the future for the children,” he said.

Speaking about the values he brings to his new role, Neels explained, “My number one thing I do bring is hard work and passion. I’m a go-getter. If you do something, you do it properly, you do it well. If you start something, you finish it.”
He also emphasised his learner-focused approach, noting that his goal is always to do what’s best for the learners.
“For me to step in, I just want to add value. Hopefully, my expertise and input can help improve what they already have. The facilities and everything are in very good condition, so I hope to maintain that and build on it,” Gouws said about his goals at Welties.
Since joining the school, Neels shared that he has been settling in well.
“Everybody has been very warm and welcoming. And I must say, it’s a wonderful atmosphere. I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I’m still getting my feet wet and still learning everything.”
His move marks the end of a meaningful chapter at Boskop and the beginning of an exciting new journey at Welties, where he aims to continue making a lasting impact.
