Welties learners support charity through Slipper Day

Besides being a fun activity, the day also served as a reminder of the importance of showing kindness and support to those facing difficult circumstances.

Learners and staff at Weltevreden Park Primary School swapped their school shoes for comfortable slippers on Friday, May 29, as they celebrated World Slipper Day.

The school grounds were filled with colourful slippers of all shapes and sizes as learners embraced the fun-filled initiative.

Some learners came dressed in bright and colourful slippers, others wore fluffy animal-shaped designs, while they all enjoyed the opportunity to add a touch of comfort to their school day and support a meaningful cause at the same time.

World Slipper Day is a fundraising initiative that is held annually by the Reach for a Dream Foundation in South Africa. The day is aimed at raising awareness and support for children who are seriously ill.

On the day, people buy stickers for R20, and they get to wear their slippers in public, helping to make a difference in the lives of children facing life-threatening health challenges and hospital stays.

Learners quickly got into the spirit of the day as soon as they arrived at the school in the morning, proudly showing off their favourite slippers.

Teachers joining in on the fun by also wearing their favourite items made the day even more memorable for the learners.
