Junior Colleges host successful Father’s Day campout

The day focused on giving fathers a chance to create special moments with their children, away from the busyness and books.

Junior Colleges Ridge View celebrated Father’s Day with a unique camp-themed event that brought fathers and their children together for an afternoon focused on connection, fun and shared experiences on Friday, June 19.

Father’s Day is celebrated on different dates around the world. In South Africa, it is observed on the third Sunday of June and fell on June 21 this year.

The school grounds were transformed into a camp-style space where fathers and learners spent quality time together away from normal school routines. Families took part in simple outdoor-inspired activities, including pitching tents, taking photos at a themed photo booth and enjoying time together in a calm and welcoming environment.

According to the school’s principal, Pravesha Ramdin, the event was made to celebrate the important role fathers and father figures play in their children’s lives. “Inspired by the belief that the greatest adventures are shared with the people we love, the event was designed to celebrate the invaluable role fathers and father figures play in their children’s lives,” she said.

“Our aim was to create an opportunity for families to slow down, disconnect from busy schedules and reconnect through quality time together,” she added.

She also shared that the activities were focused on simple experiences that build strong bonds between parents and children. “Dads and their little campers enjoyed capturing memories at the photo booth before sharing a camp-style lunch of prego rolls and corn on the cob,” she expressed.

“More than just a fun celebration, the camp experience encouraged fathers and children to strengthen their bonds, create treasured memories and simply enjoy being present with one another,” she said.

The school thanked all families who attended and said the event reflected its commitment to building strong relationships within the school community. It added that the memories created will remain long after the camp day, serving as a reminder of the value of love, laughter and time spent together. The day ended on a sweet note as families toasted marshmallows and made s’mores together.
