City has double standards

You only have to look at the state of the pavements to know how much the city applies these double standards.

There is supposed to be a pedestrian friendly area a minimum of 1.5m wide along the front of each property. This includes the shopping centres, CBD, residential areas. I challenge the Mayor and the Mayoral Committee to take a 5km walk through the city, each person a different area.

For each time that the person is forced into the road at a place other than an intersection, a donation of R100 is made to a charity for the disabled. This will underline why there are so many pedestrian fatalities – we are forced to play “chicken” with the traffic because the city is failing to uphold the law and provide its own maintenance.
