The tournament consisted of 22 teams playing three games of 15 ends. The tournament kicked off with a game of ‘spider’ in aid of the SA Guide-Dogs Association – a whopping R5 000 was donated to them at the end of the day. The teams were focused and sported good sportsmanship as they completed each round of games.

The honeydew Bowling Club has supported the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind for the past nine years through the funds raised from the Alan Lewis-Williams Memorial Bowls Tournament – an annual event in honour of their prominent club member, Alan Lewis-Williams.

“Since GDA had been made the beneficiary of this event, more than R30 000 had been donated to our association enabling us to give freedom, dignity and independence to our differently abled community,” explained their head of public relations, Pieter van Niekerk.

“We also wish to thank the puppy raisers for always stepping up to the plate to support us with our visits to the club – and that’s also the reason why this year’s pledge of R5 000 will be allocate to our puppy enrichment programme to benefit our puppies directly whilst in their socialising 16 months of training with their puppy raisers. Attending events such as yesterday’s presentation ceremony is a wonderful opportunity for our pups to receive valuable exposure to the outside world, and I’m sure that you will agree that they behave themselves excellent!” Pieter concluded.
